Assam: PM Modi hits out at Congress, Nehru; accuses party of backing terrorists over Army | India News

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday invoked the 1962 Chinese aggression to target first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, alleging that Assam “is yet to heal” from the wounds inflicted during the war. Addressing a public meeting in Assam’s Darrang district, PM Modi accused Nehru of betraying the state during the conflict.“Wounds inflicted by Jawaharlal Nehru during Chinese aggression of 1962 on people of Assam yet to heal,” PM Modi said.The Prime Minister also criticised the Congress party’s decades-long rule in the state. “Congress ruled Assam for decades but built only 3 bridges over Brahmaputra river, while we constructed six in last 10 years,” he stated.Continuing his attack, PM alleged, “Congress protects infiltrators, anti-national forces,” and further accused, “Congress, instead of supporting Indian Army, backs terrorists groomed by Pakistan.” He added, “I am pained over Congress’ insults to Bharat Ratna awardee Bhupen Hazarika.”During the visit, PM Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated several development works in Darrang. “This is my first visit to Assam after Operation Sindoor. With the blessings of Maa Kamakhya, Operation Sindoor was a tremendous success, and being on the land of Maa Kamakhya gives a completely different and sacred experience,” the Prime Minister said.Among the projects unveiled were the Guwahati Ring Road Project, aimed at easing congestion and improving connectivity in and around the capital city, and the Kuruwa–Narengi Bridge over the Brahmaputra, expected to boost socio-economic growth in the region.Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present at the event and presented PM Modi with a memento to mark Krishak Swahid Diwas, commemorating the 1894 massacre in Darrang.PM Modi is on a two-day visit to Assam. On Saturday, he held a roadshow in Guwahati and paid tribute to legendary singer and Bharat Ratna recipient Bhupen Hazarika during his birth centenary celebrations.
