In a bid to reduce road accidents and save lives, the Mulugu district police have launched a special drive to enforce helmet use among two-wheeler riders. As part of this initiative, a total of 1,949 people were fined ₹3,12,855 in the last four days (June 21 to 24) for not wearing helmets.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) P. Shabarish, the district police have been conducting special drives under the respective jurisdictions of all police stations across district since June 19.

The police officer emphasised that the special drives are not just about collecting fines but creating awareness and bringing about a change in the behaviour of drivers. The Mulugu police have also been conducting awareness seminars and programmes on traffic rules.

He said that most road accidents in the district were caused by two-wheeler drivers not wearing helmets, and the police are determined to prevent such accidents by enforcing helmet use. The special drives will continue for some time. The police urged two-wheeler drivers to wear helmets and follow road safety rules to avoid accidents and fines.
