The murder case of a rowdy sheeter, Shivaprakash, in east Bengaluru’s Bharatinagar last week has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Shivaprakash, 44, was brutally hacked to death by armed assailants near his house in Bharathinagar on July 15. Days later, five people surrendered to the police. Subsequent investigations led to six more arrests, taking the number of suspects to 11.
According to the police, several more were absconding, including the prime suspect, Jagadish.
A top CID source confirmed to The Hindu that the case has been transferred to the Homicide and Burglary wing of the CID, but the case files are yet to be handed over from the local police.
According to police sources, the case was transferred due to multiple reasons, including the suspected involvement of influential people.
Shivaprakash’s mother, who filed the complaint, has alleged that Byrathi Basavaraj, BJP MLA, had a role in the murder of her son. The police have interrogated the MLA twice, who has been maintaining that he is innocent in the matter.
Considering the gravity of the case, K.G. Halli Assistant Commissioner of Police, Prakash Rathod, was named as the investigation officer. Now, the CID has taken up the probe.
Allegations have been made about the suspects being in contact with police officers, which have been denied. The police lapses, brutality, and favouritism were also being alleged.
