Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has won the contract to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Water Metro service in Mumbai, modelled on the Kochi Water Metro.
The contract worth around ₹4.4 crore was awarded by the Maharashtra government through a competitive tender process, according to a release issued here.
KMRL’s consultancy wing had earlier carried out a feasibility study for the Water Metro service across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The proposed network spans key waterbodies including Vaitarna, Vasai, Manori, Thane, Panvel, and Karanja. It outlines a 250-km waterway network with 29 terminals and 10 routes, the release said.
