Two held for stealing two-wheelers at temple festivals in Gudiyatham

by AutoTrendly

Two persons were arrested by Gudiyatham police on Chittoor Gate Main Road near Gudiyatham town in Vellore on Wednesday for stealing two-wheelers at temple festivals and other public places in the region.

The police said the arrested persons have been identified as S. Venkatesan (22), and B. Kumar (21), childhood friends in Gudiyatham. After doing a few odd jobs, the duo began to steal two-wheelers at temple festivals. Based on several complaints, Vellore Superintendent of Police, N. Mathivanan, had formed special teams to nab them.

The police nabbed the duo during a surprise vehicle check. When they were unable to show valid documents for the vehicle they were on and gave contradictory answers, the police grew suspicious.

Initial inquiry revealed that they targetted two-wheelers parked hurriedly by owners at temple festival venues. The stolen vehicles were then kept in a godown before they were sold at cheap rates, without documents, mostly to agricultural workers or illegal arrack sellers in adjoining districts.

Each vehicle was sold for ₹5,000 — ₹10,000.

The police recovered around 25 two-wheelers from the duo. A case has been registered and further probe is underway. They have been lodged at the Central Prison in Vellore.
