Minister for Public Works Satish Jarkiholi has admitted to the government’s failure in the stampede in Bengaluru during the RCB’s victory celebrations on June 4. He, however, has maintained that there was no need to demand the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in this regard.

Speaking to presspersons in Chikkamagaluru on Sunday, Mr. Jarkiholi said: “There were failures. But there is no need for the Chief Minister’s resignation. There have been many such failures during the BJP’s rule. We did not demand resignations. There were failures of the Centre in the Pahalgam incident, but did we demand the Prime Minister’s resignation?”

During the conflict with Pakistan, all parties stood by the ruling party. However, there were some failures too. “We stood by the Prime Minister. We didn’t demand his resignation then,” he said.

Regarding the stampede, Mr. Jarkiholi said there was no clarity on who was at fault. The investigation will reveal who sought permission for the event and who gave the permission. “Nothing is clear now. Let the investigation be completed and the report filed,” he said.

Later, speaking to presspersons at Holenarsipur, Mr. Jarkiholi said K. Govindaraju, political secretary to the Chief Minister, was removed from the post because of the allegations that the event was held as per his advice.

Earlier, the Minister visited the roads in Chikkamagaluru taluk that were damaged during the recent heavy rain.
