Three people of a family died on the spot and two were injured in a road accident near Chikkabagevadi village in Belagavi district Monday evening.
Twentysix-year-old Anis Syed, 22-year-old Umehaiman Syed and one-year-old Ahmed Syed of Hirebagevadi village died on the spot.
Suresh Gouda Patil, son of the former MLA R.V. Patil, who was in the other car, was injured and admitted to the District Hospital.
Eighteen-year-old Aisha Syed who was also injured is admitted to hospital.
The Syed family was returning home after attending a relative’s wedding in Gokak.
Suresh Gouda’s car tried to overtake their car near Chikkabagevadi village and rammed it, the police said.
Circle Inspector of Police Panchakshari Salimath of Bailhongal Police Station visited the spot.
A case has been registered at Bailhongal Police Station.
