The summer school camp programme is helping several students of remote tribal areas of Parvatipuram-Manyam district to acquire knowledge and writing skills, thanks to the joint initiative of two non-governmental organisations — Action in Rural Technology and Service (ARTS) and Aide et Action.
On the suggestion of Parvatipuram district administration, ARTS director Nuka Sanyasi Rao and his team are organising the summer camps in Kutam and other remote villages of Jiyyammavalasa mandals after observing that the students were lagging behind in studies due to geographical disadvantages. The camps which started in May first week would continue till June second week in the selected villages.
According to a press release from ARTS, the students of Kutam village are forced to travel around 6 km to reach their school located in Gorli village. They are unable to do homework and understand lessons quickly due to lack of time and exhaustion after walking 12 km in a day. After listening to the grievances of parents, Parvatipuram-Manyam Collector A.Shyam Kumar and other officials took the support of ARTS and Aide et Action to hold summer camps in Kutam and other villages. Mr.Sanyasi Rao said that a team of teachers would enable the kids to understand lessons and make them to read and write confidently. “Apart from studies, we make them to participate in games and sports such as archery and volleyball. Archery would improve attention and make them focus on studies,” he added.
