The Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, has predicted possibility of an increase in rainfall over the Tamil Nadu from May 14. Heavy rainfall may occur in the district along western ghats and interior parts for three days beginning Wednesday.
Parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry may have to experience searing heat with temperature level likely to be two-three degree Celsius above average till Wednesday. Residents may have to endure uncomfortable weather as high humidity and mercury level is possible in a few pockets of TN, including Chennai. The RMC expects a slight dip in mercury level from May 14.
On Monday, Madurai airport sizzled with the State’s highest day temperature of 41 degree Celsius. Erode and Karur Paramathi too hit a mercury level above 40 degree Celsius.
The Southwest monsoon expected to set in over Kerala around May 27 may influence heavy rainfall over some parts of the State. B. Amudha, Head (additional in-charge), RMC, Chennai, said the likely advancement of clouding over south Arabian sea, Maldives and Comorin area and advancement of clouding over south Bay of Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar Islands may trigger heavy rainfall.
Dynamic weather models indicate that districts along western ghats and some interior districts may get heavy rainfall along with parts of Kerala this week, she said.
According to the bulletin, heavy rainfall is expected over Nilgiris, ghat areas of Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Salem and Tiruvannamalai districts on May 14. Rainfall may continue in isolated places of interior districts, including Tirupattur and Krishnagiri on Thursday and Friday.
The RMC has forecast scattered rainfall across the State till May 18. A few places in the State may experience thunderstorms and gusty winds with speed reaching 40-50 kmph.
Both branches of clouding over Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal would be tracked for SW monsoon advancement, said Ms.Amudha.
