IB officer’s death: HC unhappy with police not arresting colleague

by AutoTrendly

The Kerala High Court on Thursday (May 22, 2025) expressed displeasure with the police for not arresting Sukanth Suresh, a suspended Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer, in a case registered in connection with the alleged suicide of his colleague Megha Madhusoodhanan.

The court, however, restrained the police from arresting him till May 26 as it reserved its order on the anticipatory bail petition by the suspended IB officer.

When the anticipatory bail petition came up for hearing, Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas orally pointed out that the bail application was filed on April 3, 2025, and that there was no interim order preventing his arrest. It has been two months since then. “The police have not been able to trace him so far. That means they are not keen on his arrest, probably because the police do not need him for custodial interrogation,” the court said.

When the government pleader submitted that the officer could not be arrested as he was absconding, the court asked how long a person could abscond like this in these times. It was explained that the police could not trace him because his mobile phones were switched off and he had not been using his ATM card. “His custodial interrogation is necessary. There is a clear case of emotional and financial exploitation of his colleague by him,” the official added.

The pleader also alleged that he had another relationship with a different colleague. “There is also a clear case of cheating against him. Besides, there is evidence of rape,” the official claimed.
