Evening downpour drenches Hyderabad, commuters struggle amid traffic jam

Heavy rain lashed parts of Hyderabad on Tuesday evening, leading to waterlogging in several low-lying areas and causing traffic congestion across major junctions. The downpour disrupted evening commutes, forcing many residents to take shelterity.

The day had begun under a blanket of clouds, followed by brief sunshine in the afternoon, before the skies opened up in the evening, catching many unawares. Commuters returning home were left stranded in long traffic snarls.

According to data from Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), as of 9 p.m, the highest rainfall recorded was 77.3 mm in Ramachandrapuram and Patchancheru, followed by 50.5 mm in Chanda Nagar, 48.8 mm in Gachibowli, 44.5 mm in Lingampally, 34.4 mm in Hafeezpet, 33.5 mm in Jubilee Hills, 32 mm in Gajularamaram, 29.8 mm in Jeedimetla, 24.5 mm in Kukatpally, 24 mm in Yousufguda, 22.5 mm in Moosapet, 22 mm in Srinagar colony and  19.3 mm in Madhapur.

Elsewhere in the State, several districts experienced very heavy rainfall. Mangapet in Mulugu recorded the highest rainfall in the state with 114.5 mm followed by Khasimpet (Karimnagar) at 114.3 mm, Gundala (Bhadradri Kothagudem) at 113.5, Mallur (Mulugu) at 109, Nampalle (Rajanna Sircilla) at 107.8, Gudur (Jangaon) at 103, Arvapalli (Suryapet) and Thiramalapur (Jagtial) at 102.8 mm.
