NHRC notice to Madhya Pradesh over assault of two journalists by police

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday took suo motu cognisance of a press release issued by the Press Club of India, New Delhi, regarding an assault of two journalists by the police in Bhind district, Madhya Pradesh.

The journalists were manhandled, allegedly, under the supervision of the District Superintendent of Police, on May 1, 2025.

According to the press release, carried on May 25, 2025, both journalists were further forced to record a video statement stating that all matters between them were resolved.

Observing that the incident is violation of the human rights of the journalists, a notice has been issued to the Director General of Police, Madhya Pradesh, calling for a detailed report in the matter within two weeks.
