Charaka Women’s Co-operative Society in association with Desi Trust and Samagata Foundation is organising a “Buyer-Seller Meet” of producers and buyers of naturally dyed handwoven fabrics on June 20 and 21 in Bengaluru.

The event being held at Samagata Foundation, located on Church Street in Bengaluru, will bring together bulk buyers and designers who are interested in sourcing authentic naturally dyed handwoven fabrics in direct conversation with producers. It will showcase a collection of latest designs, innovations, possibilities in fabrics, including sarees, stoles and other off-the-loom range of products, states a release by the society.

Charaka Society is a women-led collective of over 800 artisans across eight districts of Karnataka and is one of the largest producers of naturally dyed handwoven fabric in the country, with a production capacity of 35,000 meters of fabric per month. As part of this event, there will be an interactive exhibition of the entire process chain from yarn stage to finished fabric including value additions; and a mini replication of Charaka’s in-house processes at their production facility in Heggodu, according to the release.

The exhibition will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on June 20 and 21. Apart from the exhibition and meetings of buyers and sellers, two workshops will be conducted for interested participants on prior registration. The first workshop on learning the basics of natural dyeing and hands-on tie-dye will be conducted on June 20 between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. The second workshop on learning basics of hand-embroidery will be conducted on June 21 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

On the second day, a panel discussion on “Sustainable Clothing and Handlooms: Bridging the gap between demand and supply” will be conducted for general public. Eminent panellists working in the textile sector, who are part of various corporate and sustainable initiatives and well-known fashion stylists will be on the panel.
