The exchange of fire took place between the group of Maoists and the Greyhounds, the elite Anti Naxal Squad of the State police department.

Akooru is nearly 10 kilometres away from Rampachodavaram headquarters.

“The exchange of fire occurred before 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday when the security forces were combing in the Maredumilli forests. Three Maoists including two female Maoists have been gunned down. Three AK 47 weapons have been recovered from the site”, said Alluri Sitharama Raju District Superintendent of Police Amit Bardar.
