The water level in the Punna river in Vellarimala in Wayanad district of Kerala rose on Wednesday (June 25, 2025) following the heavy rains that occurred the previous day.

It was reported that a small landslip occurred in the area where the landslide occurred last year. Entry into the no-go zone has been prohibited. Steps have been taken to evacuate the workers in the area to a safe place, said Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) in a release.

“We have also no confirmation of new landslides inside the forest, uphill of Punchirimattam, Wayanad. The loose debris of the previous events are coming down in rainfall. It will continue for some time as the eroded materials needs to completely wash off. The river and its immediate buffer of no-go zone is well-marked. The public are requested to not go inside the no-go zone. The zone was marked also considering the possibility of eroded materials coming down,” said KSDMA.
