The State government has intensified its efforts to support the family of Bindu, 52, who was killed in the recent building collapse at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kottayam.

As part of it, Higher Education Minister R. Bindu visited the family on Tuesday. The Minister assured the family that National Service Scheme (NSS) units under the Higher Education Ministry would take charge of completing the work of their unfinished house.

The Minister also handed over the contract for further work of the house to a contractor during her visit.

Vaikom MLA C.K. Asha, NSS State Officer R.N. Ansar, and NSS Mahatma Gandhi University Coordinator E.N. Sivadas were also with the Minister. They will also act as in-charges of the construction.

A budget of ₹12.80 lakh has been allocated for the completion of the house. The Minister added that construction would commence as soon as possible, with a target completion date set for 50 days. She also expressed hope that, in addition to the funds raised by NSS students, generous people would also contribute to this initiative.

The Minister also told the family members that the victim’s daughter, Navami, who has been re-admitted to the hospital for further surgeries, will get all the necessary treatment to ensure her speedy recovery.
