Six people died in rain-related incidents after 133 mm of rain in just 12 hours wreaked havoc across Gurugram, flooding roads, disrupting traffic, uprooting trees, and plunging parts of the city into darkness on Thursday.

Among the deceased were Akshay, a 25-year-old graphic designer electrocuted in Sector 50 while returning from the gym, and Pawan, a delivery boy electrocuted in Sector 18. Three teenagers drowned in Ghamroj village, and an autorickshaw driver died after his vehicle hit a pothole and overturned near Sadar Police Station.

Ward 22 councillor Vikas Yadav posted a video of himself swimming in a waterlogged street, sarcastically commenting: “Happy swimming in Ward 22, the most posh area of Gurugram.

In response to the flooding, the district administration issued an advisory, urging corporate and private offices to allow employees to work from home. The India Meteorological Department issued an Orange Alert for the city.

Citizens took to social media to vent their frustration. “Who buys a ₹10-crore flat here without checking infrastructure?” posted one user.

“There’s no improvement, things have worsened over the past year,” said Abhey Poonia, Suncity resident and senior VP of the Gurgaon Citizens’ Council.
