The district enforcement squad of the Local Self-Government department seized 169 kgs of banned plastic products from the Cherthala municipal area on Friday.
Officials said that plastic covers, paper plates and paper glasses were among products seized.
The squad recommended imposing a fine of ₹35,000 on five establishments for violations. Out of 19 establishments inspected, notices were issued to six.
Officials said that inspections would be intensified in the coming days.
Joint block development officer Bindu V. Nair, senior extension officer K.S. Vinod, Suchitwa Mission representative Vishnu Bharadwaj V., Pollution Control Board officer Yamunesan, Health inspectors- Tensy Sebastian and B. Shalima were part of the squad.
