Five days after a bridge collapse in Gujarat’s Vadodara district claimed 20 lives, and as the search continues for one missing person, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Sunday (July 13, 2025) has approved ₹212 crore for the construction of a new two-lane high-level bridge over the Mahi River near Mujpur in Padra taluka.
The new bridge will be built parallel to the collapsed structure and will connect Padra and Anklav.

The Roads and Buildings Department prepared a detailed project report after conducting a survey of the proposed site. The new bridge is intended to restore connectivity between Central Gujarat and Saurashtra and ease travel challenges for local commuters and students following the incident, the Government said.
Superintending Engineer N.V. Rathva stated that the existing two-lane approach road near Mujpur will be widened to four lanes with a width of 7 meters. In addition, a 4.2-km stretch from the highway to the new bridge will be upgraded to four lanes.
The new bridge project has been granted administrative sanction, and the tendering process has already begun. The target for completion is 18 months.
