YSRCP general secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy has accused the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh of resorting to vindictive politics by arresting party leaders in “fabricated liquor scam” without any credible evidence.

Addressing the media outside the ACB Special Court here on Sunday, Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy said arrests were being made without substantiating proof.

“Chief Minister N. Chandrababu  Naidu, who is an accused in the liquor scam during his term between 2014-19, is now targeting others,” he alleged.

“If Mr. Naidu has the courage, he should seek central investigation into his role in the scam,” the YSRCP leader said.

Comparing the liquor policies of the YSRCP and the earlier TDP governments, Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy said that former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had taken away liquor trade from private players and got it into the government fold to reduce and regulate prices. Mr. Naidu, on the other hand, put the operations in private hands, providing more scope for corruption, and favoured people close to him by giving them undue benefits, he alleged.

Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy faulted the “media propaganda” inflating the scam figures and dismissed allegations of siphoned funds, foreign accounts, film production, and gold purchases as baseless fabrications.

He further said that prolonged investigation by SIT was a deliberate attempt to harass the YSRCP leadership.
