The Rameshwaram Cafe has filed a complaint against a group of individuals for allegedly attempting to malign the brand and extort money by staging a false incident of food contamination at its Bengaluru airport outlet.
In a complaint to the city Police Commissioner, Sumanth Lakshminarayanan, the operation head, has filed a complaint alleging blackmail and demand of ₹25 lakh. He alleged that a group of seven people picked up a quarrel, alleging that the food served to them was bad and then threatened that they will defame and dent the image of our brand by circulating this on social media.
The group allegedly further demanded the owner of The Rameshwaram Cafe to speak to them and compensate or they have to face the consequences. “They also created nuisance in front of other customers. We have taken all the minute precautions and followed all protocols given by the airport authority regarding hygiene and quality of food,” he said.
The news went viral on social media.
The management tried to reach the person who made allegations, and two hours later, the person allegedly returned the call and straightaway demanded ₹25 lakh in cash to be delivered on Brigade Road, Mr. Lakshminarayanan said.
The cafe said that earlier there were several attempts where people with malafide intentions voluntarily put insects, stones in the food, and were caught red handed in some of their other outlets.
The police have launched a probe into the matter.
