IAS officer Y Srilakshmi. File
Justice K. Lakshman of Telangana High Court on Friday (July 25, 2025) dismissed the plea of senior IAS officer Y. Srilakhsmi of Andhra Pradesh cadre, who was made one of the accused in Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) case investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), seeking a direction to discharge her from the case.
The judge pronounced the verdict in a criminal revision case filed by her. The IAS officer, the sixth accused in the OMC case, initially filed a petition in CBI special court at Hyderabad to discharge her from the case. With the CBI special court dismissing her discharge petition, the senior IAS officer moved Telangana High Court to set aside the special court direction.
A single judge bench of the High Court passed a direction discharging her from the OMC case in November, 2022. Challenging this decision, the CBI officials moved the Supreme Court stating that the High C ourt gave relief to the top official without hearing their contention.
The apex court remanded the matter back to Telangana High Court and directed that the matter be adjudicated within three months after hearing contentions of the CBI. Justice K. Lakshman dismissed the IAS officer’s plea. With this fresh direction, the officer, Srilakhsmi, would have to face trial in the CBI special court as the sixth accused in OMC corruption case.
Earlier, the CBI special court convicted five persons, including Gali Janardhan Reddy (Karnataka MLA), and awarded them seven-year jail term. Former Minister and BRS MLA Sabitha Indra Reddy and retired officer Krupanandam were acquitted of the charges in the case. The IAS officer also filed a criminal petition seeking a direction to quash the CBI’s FIR issued against her in OMC case. But the judge dismissed the plea.
