Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State general secretary M.T. Ramesh has alleged that the jailbreak by convict Govindachamy was not an isolated incident but the result of a deep-rooted conspiracy, claiming that such an escape would not have been possible without internal assistance.
Interacting with media in Thrissur on Friday, Mr. Ramesh stated that a person with physical disability like Govindachamy could not have scaled prison walls on his own. “Locals were the ones who caught him. This highlights serious lapses on the part of the police and prison authorities,” he said.
He criticised the silence of the Jail Advisory Committee, which reportedly remained inactive until 11 a.m. following the incident. Mr. Ramesh further alleged that notorious criminals lodged in Kannur jail are being systematically aided with the tacit approval of the advisory committee. “The Home department must take responsibility, and the Chief Minister, who handles the Home portfolio, must respond to this grave failure,” he demanded.
The BJP leader also called for a judicial inquiry into the jailbreak to expose the truth behind the conspiracy.
Voter list
Mr. Ramesh accused the Election Commission of manipulating the draft voter list to benefit the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the upcoming local body elections. “In many divisions, 60 to 70 votes have been transferred to unrelated wards. This is a blatant attempt to subvert the electoral process,” he said.
On the recent government decisions on school hours, Mr. Ramesh accused the LDF government of surrendering to religious organisations for political gain. “Instead of consulting experienced professionals in the education sector, the government sought opinions from organisations like Samastha. This is purely vote-bank politics,” he alleged.
