Two persons sustained injuries after a lorry carrying coconut husks fell into a 60-foot gorge near Varattupallam View Point on the ghat road in Bargur Hills on Tuesday (July 29, 2025).

The lorry, driven by S. Manikandan, 25, of Dindigul district, was transporting coconut husks from Nagamangala in Karnataka to Pollachi. G. Gokulnath, 31, of Pollachi, was also travelling in the vehicle. Around 5 a.m., while descending a curve near the View Point on the Bargur-Anthiyur road, the lorry suffered brake failure. The driver lost control, and the vehicle plunged into the gorge.

Both Manikandan and Gokulnath sustained injuries. Road users alerted the Bargur police, who rescued the duo. They were taken to the Government Hospital in Anthiyur, given first aid, and later discharged. Bargur police have registered a case and are investigating.
