
Kakinada District Committee on Protection of Waterbodies Chairman and Joint Collector Rahul Meena chairing a meeting on encroachments on drinking and irrigation ponds in the district, at the Collectorate on Saturday.
The Kakinada District Committee on Protection of Waterbodies, led by Joint Collector Rahul Meena, on Saturday decided to serve eviction notices on those who encroached 1,548 acres of waterbodies across the district.
According to the 2024 joint survey conducted by the Revenue and Water Resources departments, the total extent of drinking and irrigation tanks in the district is 21,185 acres. Nearly two-and-half acres of ponds encroached by the individuals was evicted over the past year.
Addressing the stakeholders and officials concerned, Mr. Rahul Meena directed them to carry out a fresh survey, identifying the official boundaries of the drinking and irrigation ponds and serve eviction notices on the encroachments on the 1,548 acres.
“New boards displaying the extend of the pond, boundaries and survey numbers will be erected near them for their protection from the further encroachments,” said Mr. Rahul Meena. District Revenue Officer (DRO) J. Venkata Rao, District Panchayat Officer V. Ravi Kumar, Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board and Town Planning authorities were also present.
