The hearings before a Bench led by the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court were adjourned on Tuesday (August 19, 2025) after urgent matters in order to allow cleaning of the ceiling and the air conditioner duct of the courtroom which were reportedly dirtied by palm civets, official sources said.

The animals had reportedly urinated on the ceiling and the duct, resulting in bad odour in the courtroom. The hearings for the day were thus adjourned after the Bench headed by the Chief Justice attended to urgent matters, they added.

Forest personnel had caught a palm civet from the ceiling early on Tuesday.

It is suspected that more of these animals are on the court premises, given its proximity to the Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary, the sources said.
