The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is taking up another special sanitation drive from August 21 to 25 when legacy waste and construction debris will be lifted off the streets in the city.
The drive is being conducted in view of the recent rains, and high chances of vector-borne diseases such as malaria and dengue, a statement from GHMC said, citing Commissioner R.V. Karnan.
Road safety initiatives too, are being taken up as part of the sanitation drive. Catch-pits and manholes, which have been damaged due to rains, will be repaired in the drive. So far, a total of 11,741 potholes have been identified in the city, of which 8,330 have been repaired. A total of 434 catch-pits too have been repaired and 232 have been covered.
The road repair works will be completed by August 25, in view of the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, Mr. Karnan said.
