Seers of Veerashaiva-Lingayat mutts across Karnataka have decided to take up a door-to-door campaign to create awareness among their followers to identify themselves as ‘others’ in the religion category during the socio educational survey scheduled to be conducted by Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes from September 22.

Seers representing 186 mutts held a preliminary meeting with representatives of Akhila Bharatha Veerashaiva Mahasabha, which has given a call to Veerashaiva-Lingayats to identify themselves under ‘others’ in the religion category, and enumerate themselves as Veerashiava-Lingayats.

Mahasabha Secretary H.M. Renuka Prasanna said that, during the discussion, it was decided to invite political leaders from all parties for the Veerashaiava-Lingayata Ekata Samavesha to be held in Hubballi on September 19. “The seers backed the mahasabha initiatives ahead of the survey,” he added.
