Cong. protests against ‘broken’ roads in Gurugram

 Gurugram

Local Congress leaders, party workers, and representatives of residents’ welfare associations on Sunday picked up shovels and pushed carts to repair “broken” roads in Gurugram’s Sector 46.

The move was aimed at drawing attention to what they described as the “crumbling road infrastructure” in the city under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

The protest was led by Congress district president (rural) Vardhan Yadav, who accused the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram of failing in its basic duties despite having adequate resources. “The civic body does not suffer from a lack of funds but from a lack of willpower. People are paying property tax and road tax, yet in return they are forced to suffer these broken roads, which have turned into death traps,” he said.

Mr. Yadav alleged that the situation in the rural parts of Gurugram was “even more pathetic”.

He warned that if the government fails to act, the Congress will raise the issue both on the roads and in the Assembly.
