The Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad has taken more than 200 lives, including the passengers and crew onboard. However, one man was able to stay alive in this deadly air crash, which happened shortly after the plane bound for London took off from Ahmedabad airport on the afternoon of June 12.
Who is Ramesh Vishwaskumar?
Ramesh Vishwaskumar, aged 40, is a British national who was aboard the Air India aircraft that crashed into Meghani Nagar, located just 15 kilometres away from the Ahmedabad Airport, from where the plane took off. He was visiting India to meet his elder brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, who was also traveling with him in the aircraft, but is now missing, as per reports.
Ramesh is reportedly the lone survivor from the air crash, which also took the life of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. The aircraft was carrying 242 passengers, among whom there were 230 passengers and 12 crew members. Among them, there were reportedly 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian national.
Ramesh is currently under critical medical care, after suffering injuries to his chest, eyes, and feet, but was able to make it out alive from the crash. He was sitting in seat number 11A at the time of the air accident.
“I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were bodies all around me,” Ramesh told Hindustan Times.
“There were pieces of the plane scattered everywhere,” he continued.
Ramesh also said that an unidentified person helped him get into an ambulance that rushed him to the nearby hospital for immediate treatment. Others injured in the air accident were also taken to the civil hospital in Ahmedabad after the incident. Family members of the crash victims gathered in large numbers for news about their loved ones. A man outside the hospital in Ahmedabad could be heard saying in an ANI video, “My sister and brother-in-law are both inside, but they are not letting us go in…They were going to London…My niece is in London, and they were going to see her. She called me up from London to say that her parents were on the flight, and then I rushed here…”
